What is Robotic Surgery?

There are two (2) types of minimally invasive surgery which surgeons use; laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. Robotic surgery is the most recent invention in surgery and uses keyhole incisions, robot arms and an operating console to complete the operation. Laparoscopic surgery is different. During laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon directly holds the instruments that perform the operation. During robotic surgery the robot arms hold the instruments and the surgeon moves the robotic arms via the operating console.

Who is in control?

The robot is unable to make any independent decisions and is solely reliant on the surgeon movements within the operating console. The surgeon is in total control of the robot at all times. Robotic Surgery provides many advantages to the surgeon when operating. It gives the surgeon much better vision due to 3D magnified vision and a greater range of motion. The robot allows the surgeon to perform tiny and precise movements that were previously not possible. The miniature robotic instruments can fit into extremely tight spots and move in ways that human hands cannot; and the machines software automatically adjusts for any human hand tremors.

What are the benefits?

Robotic Surgery allows you to get on your feet much faster than conventional methods of surgery. Robotic Surgery also is the best surgery for most conditions because you will more than likely;
ï‚·

  • Experience less pain and discomfort

  • Have a quicker recovery time

  • Return to your usual activities much faster

  • Have a shorter hospital stay

  • Have much less or minimal scarring

  • Have less chances of complications

  • Experience less blood loss

  • Experience less risk of infection

How to prepare for surgery?

Preparation for urological surgery typically includes preoperative consultations, necessary imaging or lab tests and specific instructions regarding medications, fasting, and pre-surgery hygiene. Patients should follow all guidelines provided by their surgical team to ensure a smooth and safe surgical experience.
